GABF 2016

Great American Beer Festival (GABF) is an annual event and competition for American Breweries. Brewer participation and craft beer enthusiast attendance is growing exponentially. We are always happy to win an award, because the competition is just getting bigger and bigger every year! This year we won a silver medal for our Old Keller German Style Altbier.

An Altbier is a German brown ale. The “alt”  literally translates to “old” as in old style of brewing,  and “keller” translates to “cellar,” as in unfiltered,  in German. A subtle malt body, refreshing hop nose and dry clean finish make this beer surprisingly sessionable. It’s not on tap at the moment (expect for on my kegerator because I knew it was a winner…) and probably wont be again until next Spring or Fall. But that’s part of the joy of rotating specialties- they’re special! More on upcoming specialty beers that have previously won GABF medals next time…

The brewers stopped at Avery Brewing on their way to Denver to visit Danimal, an old SRB brewer, and see their brand new brewery! It is huge and efficient and beautiful.

They toured larger breweries than ours, they drank too many beers, they ate too many Cheba Hut sandwiches, they poured as many GABF pours as possible, and came home with a medal! Til next year!
